Multi-Bottle Wine Boxes
Multi-bottle wine boxes carry more than one bottle, and that changes everything. Weight goes up, internal contact goes up, and the insert has to work harder. Buyers come to us for 4-bottle and 6-bottle formats, mostly for gifts, corporate orders, or higher-value sets that ship as a unit. You don't want a box that just holds bottles. You want one that survives a courier van that gets loaded three times before it reaches the customer.
This category splits into two jobs. One is retail and gift presentation: a rigid box with a magnetic closure, a wooden box with lacquer, something that sits on a desk and gets opened slowly. The other is transit: a shipper that has to protect six glass bottles through parcel handling. Some buyers try to make one box do both. That works if you choose the structure and insert carefully. If you don't, you get a beautiful box with a broken bottle inside.
How to choose
Start with bottle count and bottle shape. A 4-bottle box for standard Bordeaux is not the same as a 4-bottle box for Burgundy or sparkling. Neck height, shoulder slope, and punt depth all change the insert geometry. Send us your bottle dimensions or a sample. We will build the insert around your actual bottle, not a generic one. That is the only way to hit the four-point hold we talk about in production.
Then decide what the box has to survive. If it goes on a pallet to a retailer, corrugated with a moulded pulp or EVA insert may be enough. If it goes by express courier to a customer, you need more. A rigid box with a velvet tray looks premium but adds weight and cost. A foldable magnetic box is lighter and still presents well. Ask yourself where the box gets opened. That answer drives the material choice.
Watch out for overbuilding. Some buyers spec a 1400 g greyboard box with a wooden outer and a foam insert for a wine that retails at twelve dollars. That one is not worth the money. The box costs more than the wine. We will tell you when a simpler structure does the job. Our job is not to sell you the most expensive box. It is to sell you a box that protects the bottles and matches the price point.
Buyer questions
Can I get a 4-bottle and a 6-bottle insert in the same outer box?
Yes, if the outer dimensions allow it. We can make one outer box with two interchangeable inserts, one for four bottles and one for six. The insert tolerance stays at plus or minus 1 mm for each. This works well when you have two SKUs but want one box inventory.
What is the minimum board weight you recommend for a 6-bottle rigid box?
We use greyboard at 1200 g minimum, and for spirits or heavier bottles we recommend 1400 g. Facing paper is 157 g minimum, specialty or coated. We do not use recycled greyboard or high-moisture paper. The extra board weight keeps the box from flexing under load, which is what cracks bottles.
Do you offer wooden multi-bottle boxes that can be shipped by courier?
Yes. Wooden boxes with high gloss lacquer are available for 4-bottle and 6-bottle formats. For courier shipping, we add internal EVA or velvet trays and run the same drop and vibration checks. Wood adds weight, so freight cost goes up. We will quote both options so you can compare.
What we control
Our control tolerance for the insert is plus or minus 1 mm. Box body is plus or minus 2 mm. That sounds tight, and it is. For multi-bottle boxes, the insert is the critical part. Each bottle is held at four points, and no neck or shoulder is left unsupported. We check every batch: shake for ten seconds, no movement. Tilt at 45 degrees, no slide. Invert, no release. If a bottle moves, the insert is remade.
We run our in-house pre-shipment checks on every multi-bottle design before it leaves. A 1.2 meter six-face drop test with bottles loaded. Top load of 40 kg or more for 24 hours. Vibration simulation for truck and sea freight, watching for any internal movement. Black, deep blue, and burgundy are the hardest colors to hold across a run, so we use Pantone matching, first-article approval, and mid-run sampling. You approve the first article, and we match to it.
