Two-Bottle Double-Door Presentation Box

This is a rigid two-bottle presentation box with hinged doors that open to show both labels at once. The inside faces of the doors are printable, so origin, vintage, serving notes, or a client message can be part of the opening. It suits corporate gifting and client presentations where the box is handled before the bottle is removed. The structure is not a shipping carton, it is a presentation piece that travels inside one.

What the structure does

The double-door format changes the first touch. Instead of lifting a lid, the recipient opens two panels outward and sees both bottles at the same time. That is the point. The doors themselves become print area, which means the message sits exactly where the hands are. You can put vintage and origin on one door and a client name on the other. For a corporate run, the same box body can serve several clients with only the printed card changed.

The box is built on 1400 g greyboard with a 157 g textured facing paper. That is above our 1200 g minimum, and it is the board weight we recommend for two-bottle spirits and wine. The facing is chosen for a clean fold at the hinge and a surface that holds fine type. No recycled greyboard, no high-moisture paper. The doors are cut from the same board as the body, so the corners stay square when the box is closed.

Card pockets and door alignment

One detail worth planning early: card-pocket layers affect door alignment. A pocket built close to the closing edge lifts that door once a card is inserted, and the two doors no longer meet evenly. We move the pocket's fixing layer away from the closing edge so the card adds no thickness at the seam. This will not show up on an empty sample. We check closure with the actual card fitted.

If you plan to print a card anyway, tell us the card stock and thickness before the structure is approved. A thin card behaves differently from a thick card. The pocket is sized for the card, not the other way around. When the card is not specified, we build the pocket for a standard card and note that on the sample tag. Swapping cards later without checking closure is the most common way this box starts to look cheap.

Insert and bottle hold

The insert is velvet-lined EVA with two separate wells, located at shoulder and base, with a divider between bottles. Two-bottle boxes should never rely on insert friction alone. The divider prevents bottle-to-bottle contact in transit. Each bottle is held at four points, no unsupported neck or shoulder. The wells are cut to your bottle diameter and shoulder height, not to a generic template.

Our control tolerance on inserts is plus or minus 1 mm, and on the box body plus or minus 2 mm. That is tight enough that a bottle does not rattle when the box is carried by one corner. The fit checks are simple: shake for 10 seconds and there should be no movement, tilt 45 degrees and the bottle should not slide, invert the box and the bottle should not release. If any of those fail, the insert is recut before the run starts.

Colour and consistency

Colour control is Pantone matching, first-article approval, and mid-run sampling. Black, deep blue and burgundy are the hardest colours to hold consistent across a run, especially on textured facing paper. If your brand colour is one of those, we will show you a drawdown before plate making and pull samples from the middle of the run, not just the start.

Matched magnet strength on both doors matters more than most buyers expect. If one door snaps shut harder than the other, the box feels lopsided. We set the magnets to the same pull force and check them on the first article and at intervals during assembly. The magnet position is controlled to plus or minus 1 mm. Corners are checked at 90 degrees when the box is erected, and the creases must not crack.

What we check before it ships

Our in-house pre-shipment checks are built around the bottle loaded inside the box, not an empty box. We run a 1.2 m six-face drop test with the bottle loaded. We stack the box under 40 kg or more of top load for 24 hours. We run truck and sea vibration simulation and inspect for internal movement. These are our own checks, not a third-party standard, and they are done on every production batch, not just the first article.

The drop test is the one that finds weak hinges. A hinge that survives a desk presentation can crack when the box falls from a courier's hand onto concrete. The vibration test finds the slow creep of an insert that fits in the sample room but shifts after an hour on a truck. If the box is going by sea, we run the longer vibration cycle. If it is going by air, we focus on the drop and stacking tests.

When this is the wrong choice

This is not a shipping carton. If the box is the only packaging between the bottle and the courier, use a corrugated wine shipper instead. A rigid double-door box will not survive being thrown into a van with no outer carton, and the doors will take the impact first. The right setup is this box inside a corrugated shipper with a foam or moulded pulp insert.

It is also the wrong choice for very heavy bottles. A magnum or a thick punt bottle puts more load on the hinge than a standard bottle. The board and hinge are built for standard bottle weights. If the bottle is unusually heavy, ask us to check the hinge spec before you commit. And if the box will be stored flat and erected by the recipient, a foldable structure with a separate insert tray may be a better fit than a rigid double-door.

Questions buyers ask

Can I use the same box body for different clients and just change the card?

Yes. The box body is printed and built once, and the card pocket is designed to take a printed card. We move the pocket's fixing layer away from the closing edge so the card does not lift the door or break the seam. You will need to approve the card stock and thickness before the structure is final, because a thicker card can change how the doors close.

How do I know the bottles will not move inside the box?

The insert is a velvet-lined EVA tray with two wells, one at the shoulder and one at the base, plus a divider between the bottles. Each bottle is held at four points. We check every batch by shaking for 10 seconds, tilting at 45 degrees, and inverting the box. The insert tolerance is plus or minus 1 mm, so the fit is specific to your bottle, not a generic shape.

What if my brand colour is black or deep blue?

Those are the hardest colours to hold consistent on textured paper. We use Pantone matching, first-article approval, and mid-run sampling. You will see a drawdown before plate making, and we pull samples from the middle of the run, not just the start. If the colour is critical, we can also discuss a coated facing paper that holds darker tones more evenly.
